Luxury vinyl tiles are great for your home. They look beautiful and someone could mistake them for being hardwood and for a fraction the cost of hardwood. You could check out the pros and cons of luxury vinyl flooring here. Luxury vinyl flooring doesn’t necessarily require very specific and detailed cleaning routines but a simple cleaning and maintenance routine can go a long way in keeping your luxury vinyl tile or plank looking like new for years.
Maintenance tips for Luxury Vinyl flooring
Use a mat to limit damage
A foot mat goes a long way in not only keeping away dirt and other loose debris but also help your Luxury Vinyl Tile/plank (LVT) away from scratches and other damage. “Protection is better than cure,” they say and is very apt for your LVT. Loose debris over time can scratch the top layer of your luxury vinyl flooring.
Use a non-slip rug or insert to save yourself from slipping
Investing in a non-slip rug underlay or insert is a good idea to prevent the rug from slipping around and possibly being a reason for your fall.
User hardboard runners
Luxury Vinyl flooring faces the maximum damage from heavy objects placed on them. You might want to use strips of wood or hardboard as runners for heavy objects. Using runners with heavy items that have wheels or rollers is also a good option.
Blinds and Curtains to Retain their shine
Use blinds and curtains to fend off the harsh sunshine from the flooring. Extended exposure to harsh sunshine can dull the colors and shine of your luxury vinyl flooring so the use of curtains or blinds can help extend the lifespan of your vinyl flooring.
Lift your heavy furniture during movement
A base rule for the maintenance of LVT is ‘lift all furniture before moving’. Moving heavy furniture can damage your LVT and hence it is best to lift all heavy furniture and objects and move them.
Cleaning Tips for Luxury Vinyl Tile
Vinyl flooring is generally very easy to clean and maintain. They aren’t really fussy about being clean. But here are a few simple tips that would keep them looking new.
Daily cleaning routine
It is best to sweep the floor regularly with a broom or a mop with a soft microfibre attachment. You could also use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. This could be done daily or on alternate days. If you have placed foot mats etc then this process could be done once a week.
A weekly damp mopping with a mild detergent, probably dishwasher liquid could help disinfect and clean the floor. Luxury Vinyl Tile and plank flooring though waterproof are still susceptible to damage due to water seeping in through the joints and edges. So a spin mop or a mop which has been nicely rung.
Stains Need Immediate Cleaning
Floors do end up taking a lot of beating. Spills and stains could happen at any house and at any time. Stains are best-taken care of as soon as they happen.

Wipe the stain with some warm water and mild detergent immediately. You can use a microfibre cloth.
In case the stain is slightly stubborn you might want to use a soft brush. Remember to be gentle and not scrub very hard as it might damage the vinyl.
In case you need to use any chemical or cleaners always remember to use only the manufacture recommended cleaners and stain removers.
Remember to wipe out the floor with a damp mop or cloth with water post your clean up operation.
